All around the world, storms have always existed. We all have a little idea about them. Here we are going to talk about them in more details and their intensity in 2024. There are two meanings of a storm. For experts, it is a lot of rain with strong winds that usually come from the ocean from the equator. For regular people, it’s one of the worst thing that can happen. Why? Because they are devastating! There could be casualties, wounded people and most of all, destruction of people's life work when extreme weather happens. Storms usually hit the coast.
There are a lot of types of storms. According to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of US) Hurricanes are defined as low pressure systems with organized thunderstorm activity that forms over tropical or subtropical waters. For example, there was Helene in the US on September 26 this year. A lot of states like Florida and North California were touched by that storm. Typhoons or hurricanes are also called tropical cyclones, depending of the region.
We will now talk about the cause of storms. Yes, even though storms are natural events and have existed before us, we still want to know why there are so many pawoerful storms. Well, we cannot say that Humans activities are the cause of storms. To make it clearer let’s find out what is really happening.
With one of the hottest summers anywhere in the world behind us and two biggest storms in one month in the US, we are all terrified of what Mother Nature is doing. One of the greatest companies in weather forecast, the World Weather Attribution will show us what is our part of responsibility in what is happening on our planet right now. Groups of scientists doing research can take up 2 years to complete their exêriments, but The World Weather Attribution group are able to come up with results faster with their great expertise and machines. They show us something interesting, I’ll say it with my own words: Generally, when natural events happen, scientists cannot say if it is really because of climate change. They need to do experiments. This takes a long time, maybe two years. When they get the results of their experiments, then anyone is interested in this event that happened two years ago. Then, of course no one takes what they say seriously. And if it is truly because of humans 'activities that these events happened, a lot of people and governments won’t take it seriously and do anything about it. These scientits told the world how humans' activities had an impact on Milton in the US just two days after it happened. They said that human activities have raised the intensity of Milton by 20 to 30%. That is a lot if we consider the damage. So yes, human activities are not the cause of storms, but they are the cause of their intensity!
If today storms create more damage than they did before, we have our part of responsibility! Think about it.
